Yucca Yucca Yucca

Historians need to know a little something about plants.

I was on a farm once and knew there used to be a log house somewhere off in the woods. The logs were long gone so little evidence, if any, remained of where the house stood. People used to plant Yucca, a VERY resilient plant, near their houses because you can use those fibers as tinder to start fires. So I started looking for Yucca and eventually found several plants close together. Sure enough, there were a few foundation stones nearby. That’s where the cabin stood.

You can also use plants and trees to locate and determine the original borders of abandon/forgotten cemeteries. But that’s another story altogether.

And biologists need to know a little something about history!
