Bizarre Bird and Butterfly Behavior: Yesterday I watched an altercation between a hummingbird and a butterfly in my garden. I was unsurprised to see the hummingbird chase a butterfly from the lion’s ear flowers, but astonished to watch the butterfly charge the hummingbird and drive it away from the plant. The territorial hummingbird was the final victor in the skirmish, but they went at it, round after round, for five minutes. Has anyone else seen a butterfly stand up to hummingbird over a nectar dispute? Confirming reports are welcome.
