First Frog

I went in search of frog eggs and tadpoles today, and found a wonderful spot for future observation. I’ve been hearing spring peepers and bullfrogs for a few weeks, but for me this was the first frog sighting of the year. This is a female Fowler’s toad (Anaxyrus fowleri) testing the waters for future egg laying, so egg and tadpole photos should follow in a few days. This species is common in the eastern Untied States, particularly in the Atlantic coastal plain.

Photographed in Chesapeake, Virginia.
