Paperweight: Boston Ranger 55 pencil sharpener, with Ticonderoga HB pencil. At 2.5 pounds (slightly more than 1 kg) this is, literally, my heavyweight paperweight. It is designed to be mounted to desktop or wall, but it is so hefty, and its mechanism so smooth, that I have never permanently attached it.
Paperweight Photo Challenge
The paperweight photo challenge is still open through 30 September. Photograph a small jar filled small items you’ve gathered over the years, and send them to me via the email address in the FatChance masthead. I’ll post your submissions with links to your sites during the first week of October. I struck through the word photo to emphasize that the challenge is not about demonstrating your skill as a photographer. Think of it more as a personality quiz.  If some future archaeologist were to uncover your jar a millennium or two from now, what would she discover about you? Fill a jar. Take a photo. Send it in.

Paperweight: I keep a surprising number of paperweights in play on my desk - surprising because the workspace is rarely subject to strong winds, other than my own gusty bloviations. Shown is a peice of polished petrified wood that I call into regular paperweight service, purchased years ago from the Escalante Rock Shop in Escalante, Utah. Please click the photo to enlarge.

Paperweight: sea glass, sea stars, sea shells, arrowhead, pipe stems, 1945 British penny, trilobite fossil, pottery shard. The detritus of my life on utilitarian display.
